Moss on the Box in Coonabarabran MX National Rnd 2
San Diego, CA – After securing a fourth place finish at the opening round at Conondale, Moss set his sights on and even better performance at the Goanna Tracks venue and was looking strong to secure the second round overall win after two great moto wins aboard his Campbell Mining, Troy Lee Designs, Maxima Racing Honda in the morning’s back to back races. Though suffering from a few nerves Moss was able to hold strong in the shorter five lap opening race and secured the teams first moto win of the season.
“In the first moto I didn’t actually get that good of a start, I was able to push up the inside of everyone and make my way through quickly” explained Moss.
I was actually quite nervous at the start while I was out front” stated Moss “I was a little unsure of what lines to take and rode a little tight. It was enough to get that win though, it was only a five lap race because the Coonabarabran track is so long.”
The second moto was just as successful for Jake as he once again got out front early, and rode away for his second straight win.
“I felt faster in the second race, once the nerves had settled” the Moss institute rider added.
Things were looking good heading into the final moto, however disaster struck on the opening lap when Moss tangled with other competitors in the opening few corners leaving him on the ground and scrambling to save the day. At one stage it looked like things were back on track but another fall late in the race left the Nerriga rider in 17th position at race end, though it was enough to secure third place for the round.
“The last race was not so good, I got tangled up with some riders at the start of the race causing me to crash and putting me at the back of the field. I was then able to charge through to about 9th position†Moss explained .
“Late in the race I made a few more mistakes, with a small tuck of the front end and missing some gear changes, but overall it was a big step in the right direction and third overall for the day is good for my Campbell Mining, Troy Lee Designs, Maxima Racing Honda team” he concluded.
Jake will now set his sights on racing the Coolum round in the Sunny state title in Queensland this coming weekend before making his way to Wonthaggi for the next round of the National series.
